Exercise

There are dozens of exercises that Alzheimer's patients can perform either alone or with help. Most often they will be seated to ensure good balance and prevent falls. The movement is necessary to help prevent shrinking and atrophy of muscles due to inactivity. Many patients will remain in one place for hours which not only leads to boredom and lack of communication, but it contributes to loneliness, poor sleep, poor appetite and wandering.

Participation in these exercises is most often within groups which is great for building a sense of community, accomplishment and just plain fun.

Exercises can easily be streamlined to incorporate activities that each participant is familiar with. By combining several  exercises together a beneficial exercise program of 30 to 45 minutes can be administered.
